Biography

Anne, or Annelet was the daughter of “Christ Koli” according to the birth cerificate of Anne’s daughter, Catharine Celestine Jaeger. However, that birth certificate has errors in recording names which the illiterate family were unable to correct. On Anne’s death certificate, her birth name is recorded as Collin. I don’t know which name is correct (or if either is correct).

Anne was only 28 at the time of her death.

1811 - Anne’s death certificate:

  • “Death certificate of Anne Jaeger born Collin, aged 28 years, born in Thun, Switzerland, domicile, Wissembourg, France. The house where she died was #29 Quartier Noir. Date of death at noon, 18th of November, 1811. Wife of George Simon Jaeger, shoemaker, living in this community. First declarent (illegible), second declarent, George Simon Jaeger, shoemaker, aged 34.”

1829 - Anne is listed in her daughter’s wedding certificate:,

  • Metz, France Wedding Cerificate dated June 17, 1829: “In the year 1829, June 17th, at 11:00am before me, Joseph Pierre Georgin deMordigny, deputy mayor of Metz, acting as a public officer of the registry office, have appeared Charles Guillaume Friedrick, 30 years old, born in Leipzig on March 31, 1799, tailor, resident of Metz, rue Fournirue, son of deceased Jean Frederick, mason in his day, and of Christine Fredrick Dorothee Kullman, his wife, both of them deceased in Leipzig, one on November 5, 1813 and the other in July 3, 1802, as it can be stated by the burgomaster of the so-called city, on the one hand and Catharine Jaeger, 25 years old, born in Le Locle, principality of Neuchatel, in Switzerland in December 14, 1803, in service and a resident of Metz, at the law court, daughter of deceased George’s Simon Jaeger, shoemaker in his day, and of Anne Collin, his wife, both of them deceased at Wissembourg, one on January 19, 1828 and the other on November 17, 1811, as it can be stated by the death certificates issued by the mayor of the so-called town. Balthazar Jaeger and Catherine Wust, the ancestors on the father’s side, deceased in Durbach, one on Germinal (month) 13, year 8 (French revolutionary date) and the other on August 29, 1823, as it is stated by a cerificate delivered by the burgomaster of the so-called town on 10th of last April. The bride and her witnesses have declared that on her birth certificate her father is called by error, Hiegle, instead of Jaeger, his real name. Friedrick being unable to produce the death certificates of his ancestors, he declares that he does not know the place of their deaths nor their last domicile. The four witnesses declare that although they know the bride and groom, they do not know where the groom’s ancestors died nor their last domicile.” “The public announcement of the wedding plans was made on the 7th of this present month and on the 14th. As no opposition has been made to this wedding, we have asked the bride and groom if they want to take one another for husband and wife. Each of them has answered separately and affirmatively so we do declare in the name of the law that Charles Guillaume Friedrick and Catherine Jaeger are joined in matrimony. We have written this certificate in the presence of Jean Nicolas Murville, aged 59, owner, living in Metz, en Nexirue, of Joseph Leclerc, aged 70, stocking maker, living in Metz, place des Charrons, of Jean Auvin, aged 55, retired military man, living in Metz, rue de le Bibliotheque, and Francois Poincelet, aged 43, tanner, living in Metz, rue 56 Marie. The four of them being witnesses for the bride and groom have signed the cerificate with me as well as the groom. The bride has declared that she is unable to sign.”
