"The Last Will and Testament of Vines Collier is dated September 11, 1795 and was recorded on December 11, 1795. Vines became ill and passed away before signing the Will. However, with the testimony of witnesses who verified the accuracy of the Will as directed by Vines, as well as the acknowledgement of heirs, the Will was allowed to stand.

Vines served as an Ensign and Lieutenant in the French and Indian War, and was in the expedition to Fort Duquesne on 9 July, 1755. He was incapacitated during the American Revolution, but provided aid, comfort and supplies to the Continental Army. After the war, Vines moved his family from Virginia through North Carolina to Georgia, settling in Wilkes County, about six miles from the town of Lexington in what would become a part of the newly founded county of Oglethorpe. He built a two-level house consisting of four rooms over a basement with an attached shed in 1786, which would be named "Pleasant Hill." In 1835, the home was purchased from Vines' son, Isaac Collier, by Judge William T. Howard who added on to the original structure and still stands today in Lexington as a fine example of Greek Revival architecture. Vines, "Sallie", and their son, Vines, Jr., are buried on the property a short distance away from the house which is now called the "Collier-Howard house", and has remained in the Howard family since its purchase from the Isaac Collier. Their gravesites are accessible by following Old Salem Road (CR 150) about a mile past the white clapboard, Salem Baptist Church, and about 100 yards before you come to the Collier-Howard house, next to a pasture under two large water oak trees. The following link for the Vines Collier's will does not go anywhere and should be deleted or updated: https://ancstry.me/33YOSsL Even tried just adding an "e" to spell out ancestry. It leads to a site that's for sale. Don't know if you have a better link to this will. I tried the site mentioned below, but I know that collierheritage.org changed out how searches are done, so those don't go anywhere either. Please correct. The error message says: Error 966: Link error various

Thank you.

I think someone who has an ancestry account will have to fix it.

I have an Ancestry account - this link led nowhere. Will go ahead and delete. And, I will try and replace with another link if I can find it. He's on my tree, so I should be able to find his will.

see https://www.collierheritage.org/the-last-testament-and-will-of-vines-collier/ -

the page has a full transcription (filling in the blanks using a copy of the draft). It notes that the will, which was unsigned, was dated 11 September 1795 and recorded 11 December 1795. It also states that "Vines Collier died December 7, 1795 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He was buried in the family burial plot on his plantation."

The main DAR record for Vines shows death as "before 11 December 1795". Descendant records show a variety of dates: after 7 September, 11 September, after 7 December, 11 December (mostly 1795, but one has 1794). His wife's death date is fairly consistent (after September 1795 with one c1812), which makes me think he wrote his will in September (or December?) 1795 and the 11 December 1795 on his main record is the date it was probated or proved.

Daughter Mary's birth year is 1778 in her profile (Collier-1437) but consistently 1787 in the descendant records (and married John Hardeman Owen 21 Dec. 1803).
