Olin Coles was born in the United States. Emancipated and living entirely on his own at age 16, he supported himself by working two jobs while also attending mandatory classes throughout High School. Olin graduated and joined the United State Marine Corps, where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He would later operate his own business, and marry. At the time this profile was created, Olin was still a living person.[1]
Olin's genealogical passion is the result of family suppression of history and records. After years of requesting a once-seen paternal family tree, he began researching family ancestry on his own. Upon receiving the results of DNA testing, he was connected with, and contacted distant relatives that pointed him towards historical resources. Within months, his family tree grew well beyond the dozen immediate family members he had known of, thanks largely in part to the work done by related researchers Paul M. Crocker and William H. Coles, Jr. with their books Descendants of William Temple Coles III[2] and William Temple Coles Family.[3]. Most currently, Olin has confirmed relation to more than 2800 relatives around the globe!

We wrote to you about the changes in the Profile Improvement Project (PIP) a couple of weeks ago. If you would like to continue with the Project, we can place you in the Biography Team, Level 1 where you can work on improving profiles from your own watchlist to Level 1 of the Profile Standards.
We would like to hear from you with any ideas or suggestions. If you do not wish to participate in the Project, please let us know. If we don’t hear from you within 7 days we will remove you from the Project, but we will welcome you back at any time.
I must have missed your message, and apologize for the delayed response. Kindly take me off the roster, as I am not participating in events at the moment. Thank you.
The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team who guide new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. Please let us know which team(s) you would like to participate in.
For those of you who joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018, we would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you plan to join the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If you’re at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.
We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). You will find more information on the GoogleGroup.
We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:
Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.
We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.
Olin, every contribution to WikiTree improves the quality of our Shared Tree. The Appreciation Team thanks you for all your efforts by making more than 1,000 contributions during the month of September.
Olin, the Appreciation Team thanks for you for efforts toward making our Shared Tree the best it can be with your 1000+ contributions during August 2019. You are an important part of what we are all about!
Olin, Thank you for your work updating the Drake limb of our family tree. Just one comment; my grandfather Earl Garvin Drake, Sr. went by his middle name Garvin. My dad Earl Garvin Drake, Jr. went by Earl. I am proud to have carried on the middle name Garvin. Just wish I could have talked one of my kids into passing it on to one of my grandkids.
Welcome to the Connectors Project! Be sure to check out the Connectors project page to see some of what we do, our To-Do lists which have folks who need connected to our Global Tree, and please add the connectors tag to your G2G feed.
