Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman was born on 9 March 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Randolph Coleman and Rosa Crockett.

In 1954, he married Sallie Jane Richardson.^[2]

He died in 2015 in Manhattan^[3] and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx.^[4]
