Merriam E. Cole was born on September 20, 1834 in Augusta, Kennebec, Maine, United States, daughter of Ambrose Cole (1787–1857) and Elizabeth Palmer (1793–1872).

Research Notes

Birthdate on death cert if likely off by a year. Census dates are off several times, particularity in 1871. The 1861 census in not indexed correctly.

She was likely not married. The 1920 Census says she was divorced according to the index but the written entry could be interpreted either was. It loots like a D overwritten with an S. The 1910 census and her death cert say single. There is a Merriam Cole that married in 1857 however this conflicts with the fact that she was living with her mother in 1861 and 1871 using the name Cole.
