Allan Cocksedge was born on 29th October 1917 in Annandale, an inner western suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He was the fourth and youngest son of Charles Cocksedge and Sarah Petersen. [1]
As did his three older brothers, Allan served in the Second Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War; enlisting on 18th September 1942. [2] He was a Signalman in the 18th Lines of Communication Signals, serving in both the then-Australian Territories of Papua and New Guinea. With the war won, he was discharged on 3rd December 1945. For his war service he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
