Biography

Jeremiah was born in 1902. He was the son of Charles V. Cockey and Mary Louisa Baublitz. He was the tenth of their fourteen living children.

Cockey was a prominent and common name in the Baltimore area, as evidenced by the town of Cockeysville in Baltimore County. But this branch, with Charles Vincent, Mary Louisa and children, lived a hard life. For instance, in 1900, Charles and his two oldest children - Dora (12 yrs) and Sadie (10 yrs) worked in a cotton mill.

He married Mary Elizabeth Bowen around 1921. They had four children (Helen, Virginia, Donald, and Richard), Helen died in infancy.

In 1930, 1940 and 1950, his family lived with his in-laws. Preston worked in a machine shop at the Baltimore Navy Yard.

He passed away in 1974.
