Biography

Thomas Clutterbuck was born 27 August and baptised 7 September 1623 at Dunton, Buckinghamshire, the son of Samuel Clutterbuck and Frances Smith.^[1]

He matriculated at Magdalen Hall, Oxford, 12 July, 1639, aged 15; 3 years at Emmanuel College, Cambridge; demy Magdalen College 1642-4, B.A. 18 December 1643, fellow 1644 (until expelled by the parliamentary visitors 1648), M.A. 4 July, 1646; rector of Leakford, Hants, 1660; sinecure rector of Llandrillo in Edeirnion, co. Merioneth, 1660; rector of St. Mary's, Southampton, 1662; archdeacon of Winchester 1684.^[2]

He married first, Jane Basket, 18 October 1651 at Dunton.^[3] As a widower, he made an allegation for a licence to marry Susan Norton 9 June 1662.^[4]

He was buried at Southampton 16 November 1700.^[5] His will, dated 9 May 1700 with a codicil of 12 November 1700, included references to the following:

The will was proved at London 8 January 1700/1.^[6]
