Biography

Birth Marion was born in 1827.[1] He was the son of Samuel Clay and Martha Edwards.

1830 Census Living with parents in Rutherford County, Tennessee.[2]

Death of Father / Mother's remarriage No record of his father Samuel death has been found but his mother Martha remarries in 1837 so it is assumed that he died around 1836.[3]

1840 Census Living in Gibson County, Tennessee with a blended family. The household consists of three males; one 10-14 (Marion Clay), one 15- 19 (?) and one 30- 39 (Solomon) and five females; two under 5 (Emily & Mattie), two 5-10 (Louisa Shaw & Louisa Clay) and one 30-39 (Martha).[4]

1850 Census Marion is living on his own in Gibson County, Tennessee. His occupation is an attorney.[5]

Marriage Marries Hannah E. Thompson on 20 January 1858 in Bibb County, Georgia.[6]

1860 Census Living in Big Rock Township, Pulaski, Arkansas with spouse, child and one other. Marion is a lawyer owns real estate valued at $80,000 and the vaue of his personal estate is $37,000.
