Research Notes

Ref: Elizabeth "Betsy" Clark b. circa 1732 Many have attributed Elizabeth Betsy Clark, daughter of Jonathan Clark and Elizabeth Wilson as the wife of George Tribble and mother of Andrew Tribble. In an article by George H. S. King, Fellow, American Society of Genealogists, which appears in Genealogy of Kentucky Families (Filson), I have found the most specific information about Elizabeth Clark regarding possible birth date (1732). She is "presumed to have died in infancy“ according to this article. There is no proof of her early death, but she would not have been old enough in 1741 to have been Andrew Tribble's mother.

The four children of Jonathan Clark were born between 1725 and 1734, apparently. Elizabeth, the youngest child, is said to have been an infant at the time of her father's death in 1734. Elizabeth Clark's mother, Elizabeth Wilson Clark Richards, did not name any daughters in her will (Lunenburg Co., Va. 1785), although her daughter, Ann, left a daughter ather death (circa 1748). No grandchildren or sons-in-law were named. Her two sons from her first marriage to Jonathan Clark, John and Benjamin, and her surviving son of her second marriage, Gabriel Richards, were named in her will. It is possible that Elizabeth Clark did live to adulthood but died before her mother, but her birth date does not put her in the right generation to have been Andrew Tribble's mother. Her birth date does not appear to be more that an estimate, but she does not appear to be the oldest child of Jonathan Clark. If she were born by 1726, she could have been of marriageable age by 1740, but all sources say that John Clark was born in 1726, and that Ann was the second child, born about 1728. I cannot tell at this point whether there could be an error in the Clark dates so that Jonathan and Elizabeth Wilson were perhaps married earlier than circa 1725.The Tribble family II : (descendants of Peter Tribble of Essex County, Virginia. Clark-64177 and Clark-4969 appear to represent the same person because: Elizabeth Wilson had only one husband named Jonathan Clark.

There seems to be a pretty wide discrepancy between children listed in the bio and children listed in the relationships section.

Could some hero possibly clarify all this?

If he exists, "Richard Clark" from the relationships section could be the same person as my 7x great grandfather, who I can't otherwise connect to a specific family, so I'm keenly interested. This is particularly true because my Clarks match the Christopher and Micajah Clark line in terms of y-DNA.
