Jane was born in Minisink, New York, in 1759. to James Clark and Sara Van Aken.

She is buried in Van Fleet Burying Ground, Wantage, Sussex County, New Jersey. Gravestone inscription was recorded before 1934 as: "Jane wife of Samuel Van Fleet died on Mar. 31, 1848, aged 89 y. 1 m. 28 d." Annotation by Charles Stickney indicates "(daughter of James Clark and Sarah Van Auken, pioneer settlers of Unionville on the Armand place) possibly Deerpark, Orange, New York."[1] Findagrave memorial has a gravestone image that shows the inscription as "In memory of Jane, wife of Samuel Van Fleet, who died March 31, 1848, AE 89 ys, 1 mo, 28 ds," but indicates a birth date of 28 May 1763.[2]
