Biography

Samuel Siler, Margaret Duke and Arlando Benjamin were the last three children that Aug Clapp and Maggie Bare had together. Maggie died when Ben was nine years old. It seemed that the three youngest siblings stuck together. Sam served his country before his first marriage and join the Navy. Sam had moved to Beaufort County with his wife Mary Ethel Campbell and their 3 children were born there: Mary Athelene Clapp (b. 1923), Orpha Lee Clapp (b.1924) and Samuel Siler Jr. ( b. 1927 - d. 1927). When his brother Ben married Josie Wright they moved to Washington, Beaufort with Sam and Ethel. They later moved back to Siler City, North Carolina to be closer to the parents and start the International Harvester business that Sam and Ben ran. On the 23rd of Nov, 1978, in Durham, North Carolina, were Sam was being treated for medical conditions, he passed away. He was brought back to Siler City and buried in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with his wife Ethel who passed away with cancer when she was 36 years old.
