Biography

Flag of Yorkshire (adopted 2008)
Sarah (Charter) Plater was born in Hollym, Yorkshire, England.

Sarah Charter was born about 1833 in Hollym, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of John Charter and Frances Atkinson[1].

In 1841 she was living with her parents and four siblings at Hollym, Yorkshire East Riding, England, United Kingdom[2].

In 1851 she was living with her parents and six siblings at Hollym, Yorkshire East Riding, England, United Kingdom[3].

On the 28th December Peter Hunsley entered a marriage notice at York[4]. On 10 January 1853 Sarah Frances Charter (abt.1833-) (19) married Peter Hunsley (51) of Hull Bank, Cottingham at Hollym and Withernsea, Yorkshire East Riding, England, United Kingdom[5].

On 10 January 1856 her son Everard William Hunsley was baptised at Sculcoates, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom[6].

On 5 December 1856 her daughter Adelaide was baptised at Saint Mary and Saint Nicholas, Beverley, York, England[7].

In 1861 she was 25 living at Green Lane, Cottingham, Yorkshire East Riding, England, United Kingdom with her husband and two children. They had one servant.[8].

On 6 April 1866 her son Arthur John Hunsley was baptised at Brompton by Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom[9].

In 1871 she was 38 and a Lodginghouse Keeper. She was widowed and living with her two sons. One son was Walter aged 9 so he would have been born just after the 1861 census perhaps as he didn't appear in it. No baptism record has been found for him. She had two lodgers. [10].

In 1881 she is 48, a widowed dressmaker living in St-David Ward, Toronto (City), Ontario, Canada with her two sons Walter (20) and Arthur (15). Her religion is given as P. Meth (Presbytarian Methodist?)[11].

On 29 October 1881 her son Walter Charles Hunsley (21) married Sarah Jane Dowson (20) at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada[12].

On 25 Jan 1889 her son Arthur John Hunsley (24) married Amy Drury (20) at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada[13].

On 02 September 1891 at the age of 56 she married Benjamin Plater aged 64 at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada[14].

In 1901 she was living with her husband at Toronto (east/est) (city/cité), Ontario, Canada[15].

Research note

In 1881 she appears in Canada although no immigration record has been found for her. It seems this is her, as her two sons are resent with the right ages. A later marriage also has the right parents.

She had 5 children with Peter Hunsley - profiles needed.
