Biography

Infante don Manuel de Castilla y Leon was the son of Fernando III, King of Castile, and his first wife Elisabeth (Beatriz) von Hohenstaufen[1].

He married Constanza of Aragon, daughter of Jaime I 'El Conquistador' of Aragon and his second wife Violante of Hungary in 1260 at Catalyud[1]. They had three children:

  1. Constanza, died young
  2. Alfonso Manuel (1261-1275)
  3. Violante Manuel, married Infante Afonso of Portugal[1].

He married secondly in 1274 Béatrix de Savoie, daughter of Amédée IV de Savoie and Cécile des Baux. They had one child:

  1. Juan Manuel, succeeded his father as señor de Villena[1].

Manuel de Villena had three children by a mistress named Maria:

  1. Fernando
  2. Enrique
  3. Blanca.[1].

He had one son by his mistress Nuña:

  1. Sancho Manuel, señor de Infantado y Carrión (issue)[1].

Manuel died in Peñafiel on 25 December 1283. He was buried in the Santiago convent in Uclés[1].
