• MR. THOMAS JOSEPH CASHEL
• The death took place very suddenly yesterday, of a well-known resident in the person of Mr. Thomas Joseph Cashel, at the great age of 86 years. The deceased had been staying at Mrs. Merrill's boarding house in Warne Street for some time, and yesterday morning at about 11 o'clock he suddenly collapsed and died. The late Mr. Cashel was one of the old pioneers of the Wellington district, who had seen many changes take place during his life time. For many years he followed farming pursuits at Dripstone, but had retired from active work many years ago, and he was a familiar figure about this town. In his youth he was a very fine stockman and one of the best horsemen in the district. His wife predeceased him many years ago. He is survived by a grown up family, the daughters being Mrs. Moore (Sydney) and Mrs. A. Smith (New Guinea).The sons are Albert (Wellington), Ernest (Hurstville), and James (Redfern). The remains were encased in a polished maple casket, and a Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church this morning. The funeral took place this afternoon, the remains being interred in the Catholic portion of the Wellington Cemetery, Rev. Father Kelly officiating at the graveside. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs C. J. Shakespeare and Sons.
