It is worth noting that the date of birth given on Wikipedia is stated as before 1685. It must have been well before it and likely about 1675. His father died in 1688 and had married Elizabeth Lindsay in 1669. In these intervening years they had four children of which David was the only boy. He takes his seat in Parliament as the Earl of Northesk in 1698 and thus clearly of age.
