Biography

Clymenia was born in 1837. She was the daughter of Ezra Carlton and Mary Howland.[1]

She married Silas F. Washburn in Dekalb Co, IL in 1856.[2][3] Silas was a son of Marcus Washburn.

She married Oscar Crisman in Dekalb Co, IL in 1877.[4][5][6]

She passed away in 1909.[6][7]

1 - female 30-40 (seems wrong - Mary is actually 49)
If we assume those female columns were shifted by 1, then it matches up a bit better (assuming daughter Mary is in the household):
1 - female 10-20 (Clymenia)
1 - female 20-30 (daughter Mary)
1 - female 40-50 (head Mary)
Her obituary[6] indicates they moved to Dekalb Co, IL on 10-June-1855.

Clymena Crisman, 60, b ME mother of 10, 5 living

The children comment for her is odd. No children for her have been found. Perhaps she mistakenly answered it in the viewpoint of her mother, as those numbers would be true in 1900 for the children of Mary Howland Carlton.

Death 1909

MRS . OSCAR CRISTMAN - Stricken By Paralysis Respected Pioneer Suddenly Passes Away.
Mrs. Oscar Cristman appeared to be in her usual health last Tuesday morning, but when her husband returned from a visit to DeKalb in the evening, he found the house dark and his wife lying on the sofa. She did not respond to his greetings, and as he went to her she reached for his hand, clasped it, and a few minutes later expired. Her death was caused by a stroke of paralysis.
Clymena C. Carlton was born May 9, 1837, at Letter, Maine. She came with her mother Mrs. Ezra Carlton to Cortland township, this county, on June 10, 1855. After a residence there of some 15 years she removed to BIoomington, Ill., and then to Sycamore, where she made her home for several years, when she removed to the farm four miles southwest of Sycamore and two miles north of DeKalb, where they continued to reside for some 30 years. Over two years ago they again became residents of Sycamore, making their home on DeKalb avenue, east of the Northwestern station
Clymena C. Carlton and Oscar Cristman were married on March 26, 1877.
Mrs. Cristman leaves surviving besides her husband, two brothers, David, who is a resident of the Cherokee reservation, and Ezra Carlton, who is a resident of Denver, Col., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Ward of Portland, Maine.
The funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. J. P. Brushingham, pastor of the Methodist church. The interment was in the family lot in Cortland cemetery.
Mrs. Cristman was a lady of many graces of character, loved and esteemed by all.
Among those at the funeral were: H. C. Saehlemonn of New York City, a, nephew; Mrs. Addie Thompson of Lexington, Neb., a niece; T. R. and L. M. Ricker and Mrs. Lauretta Crossett, relatives, all of Cortland.[6]

Research Notes

  • There is suspicion that Marcus Washburn (father of Silas) is a brother to Daniel Washburn (father of Adelia). Thus, Clymenia and her brother Ezra may have married Washburn cousins.
