Petrus (Canteyn) Cantine was a grandchild of a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).

Petrus was born to Pieter Canteyn and his wife, Elisabeth Blansjan. He was baptizeed 1729 December 18th with Jan Vesin and Annatjen Vesin as witnesses, and recorded at the Reformed Dutch Church in Kingston [1], His siblings are Elisabeth [2], Moses [3], Margrietjen [4], Elisabeth [5], Matheus [6], Maria [7], Nathaniel [8], Catrina [9], Abraham [10], Cornelia [11], and Johannes [12].

Petrus was married 1760 November 14th to Magdalena Fever of Horli, as recorded at the Reformed Dutch Church in Kingston [13]. Their chidren are Margaret [14], Johannes [15], Mattheus [16], Pieter [17], Elizabeth [18], Maria [19], and Jacob [20].

Petrus' wife, Magdalena, joined the congregation of the Reformed Dutch Church in Wawarsing 1773 September 10th [21], and with a certificate from the church in Marbletown Petrus also joined 1774 Jul 10th [22]. At this church Peterus and his wife witnessed the baptisms of Petrus Dewitt [23], and Peter Cantine Brodhead [24].

Petrus is possibly buried in the Old Ellenville Cemetery, Ellenville, Town of Wawarsing, Ulster County, New York. [25]
