in Ancestry Nuncupative Will of Richard Campe

From Ancestry, Richard Campe was born in 1533 in Nazeing, Essex, England, his father, Thomas, was 26 and his mother, Margery, was 18. He married Elizabeth in 1560 in his hometown. They had 11 children in 15 years. He died on August 17, 1584, in Nazeing, Essex, England, at the age of 51, and was buried there. 1584. Oh I just read an article NWhisenant13 originally shared this on 01 May 2014 which suggests the two Richards might be cousins and apparently there are two wills. "Richard Campe husband of Magdalen is listed as the son of John Campe (1505-1577?) and an unknown mother. It appears that John Campe was the brother of Thomas Campe (1507-1560) and uncle of Richard Campe of Snowes. John Campe (1505-1577) and Thomas Campe (1507-1560) are supposedly the sons of Henry Campe of Nazeing and an unknown mother." "Richard Campe (abt 1533 to 1584), son of Thomas Campe (1507-1560) and Margery Bannyster Campe, is the Curtis connection. Thomas’s Will says: “To Richard my eldest son my tenement called Snowes with appurtenances . . .”. He calls his wife Margery not Joan (I cannot find any connection between this Thomas Campe and Joan Boreham). Richard’s Will in turn says he is “of Snowes”. His wife is Elizabeth (unknown maiden name) not Magdalen. He lists two daughters Mary and Elizabeth in his will. His will is witnessed by Robert Hall, gentleman, John Banyster, Wyllim Curtes [probably William Curtis], yeoman, and John Hopkyns, minister. It is possible that Robert Hall was also a close relative of this Richard’s wife, Elizabeth. But I have nothing to back that up. John Banyster could be a descendant of or the same person who witnessed Thomas Campe’s Will (John Bannyster brother of Margery Bannyster Campe) and Wyllim Curtes is probably the father of Thomas Curtis who married this Richard’s daughter, Mary Campe. What leads me to believe this is that while no sons are mentioned in the will transcription, at the Camp Family Genealogy website under Richard’s children is listed Thomas (1561-1591). In this Thomas’s Will, he is called “Thomas Campe of Snowes, yeoman”; his mother’s name is Elizabeth; and he mentions “my brother [brother-in-law] Thomas Curtis”. I see this is similar to Ellens Comment but it is an interesting article.

Nazeing, Essex, England the will is a picture and in old English so hardly legible apparently each Richard left a will. Also my Ancestry Tree which is not all sourced, but a workin progress, lists Thomas Campe and Margery Bannyster as parents of Richard 1533 to 1584. John Bannyster1495 as father of 1484Margery and Henry Campe as father of Richard 1533.

Thanks Sherryl. I just added some Research Notes from an article about Thomas Campe. There appear to be two of them with lots of similarities but they each had one wife. Now that I have Research Notes pulling apart the article, I can work on separating the profiles. I will read through what you have posted, which is about the 1st Richard Camp in the Research Notes with wife Elizabeth and being from Snowes.
New NEHGR article identifies two different men named Richard Camp(e) who have been conflated and states that "Mary (Camp) Curtis was not the daughter of Richard and Magdalen (Hall) Camp, but was rather the daughter of Richard Camp of Snowes and his wife Elizabeth."

Reference: Robert Battle, "Magdalen (Hall) Camp was not the Grandmother of William(1) Curtis and Mary(1) (Curtis) Ruggles of Roxbury, Massachusetts," NEHGR Vol. 173 (2019):119-121.
