Biography

Joseph Theodore Calvé[1] was born on 14 Mar 1730 to Francois Calvé and Marie Angelique Bigras in Pointe-Claire, Canada, Nouvelle-France.[2] He was baptized the same day at Saint-Joachim-de-la-Pointe-Claire.[2]

He likely married Marie Josephe Marechal[3] in the early 1760s at Fort de Chartres, Pays des Ilinois, Canada, Nouvelle-France[4].

About 1765 Joseph and his family at the time moved to San Luis, Luisiana, Nueva España, where he received a concession of the east 1/2 of Lot 61 on 30 Apr 1766.[5]

Their known children are Joseph Calvet, Jr.[6][4], Marie Therese Calvet[7][4], Victoire Calvé[8][9][4], Marie Josephe Calvé[10][11][12][4], Marie Jeanne Calvét[13], Marie Angélique Calvet[14], Marie Reine Calvet[15][16], Marie Francoise Calvet[17][18][4], and Antoine Calvet[19][4].

Joseph Calvé likely died on 17 Aug 1817 at St. Ferdinand, Missouri Territory, United States of America.[4]

Research Notes

Houck, in his 1908 History of Missouri Vol 2 indicates that Joseph married Theresa Marechal, but doesn't cite any sources for that information.[4] All of the contemporary baptismal, marriage, and burial record sources found to date identify the name of Joseph's wife and the mother of their children as variations of Marie Josephe Marechal.[8][10][13][14][15][17][7][19][9][11][3][6][16][18][12]

A son (name not specified) was buried in 1780.[20]
