I am found for the first time on the 1950 census with mother and father living in Tampa, Hillsborugh County, Flroida. The address is 609 N. Court [1]

I have been working on my personal family tree for more years than I would like to admit. It all started when my son was getting ready for college and we were looking for any scholarships available and one was for descendants of civil war soldiers, so the search began and has not stopped.

My grandfather was from Scotland and I became involved with the Clan Forsyth Society USA and am now the society's newsletter editor and genealogist, so happy to hear from any Forsyth descendants, even if you do not connect to mine. Visit our website at http://www.clanforsyth.com/

So my mother's father was from Scotland, as was all of his family as far back as I can find. My maternal great grandfather was from the Azores and his wife was from Ireland. The rest of my family is found in the southeast USA. I'm pretty sure most are from either Ireland or England but have not confirmed that yet. And of course, I have the family lore of one American Indian, from my Dad's side, but I've yet to find any evidence of that.

Wiktree does tell me I am the 4th Cousin 14 times Removed from May Stuart Queen of Scots Mary Stewart. It says my 17th Great Grandfather is her 3rd Great Grandfather. I'll have to check out the souces that prove that, but it is fun to imagine.

Hello Marsha, you are my 21st cousin 3 times removed !
Hi Coz, it seems we are. Although I've not looked to see how well proven this is. Have you?
The connection was not immediately obvious, so I hunted down the list using "Ralph Bracebridge (1208 - 1277)" as my 20th Great Grandfather ... stopping by at "John DeKyngesbery (1430 - 1480)" as one of Ralph Bracebridge's Descendants - and my 15th Great Grandfather moving towards when the surname was spelled "Kingsbury" and is the connecting surname that I recognized. Rebecca Kingsbury https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kingsbury-631 married my 5th Great Grandfather, Nathan Rawson https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rawson-768 ..... my mom's grandfather was Paul Olney Rawson https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rawson-757. I have photographed many gravestones and can say that there are some interesting surnames to be found in Connecticut's Windham County cemeteries including the surname, "Hutcheon", but that is another story for another day.
Hi Marsha,

It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!

Sheena - Scotland Project Membership Coordinator

I want to continue as a project member. I can't estimate how much time per month I spend on Scottish profiles, but as the Clan Forsyth Society USA genealogist, manager of the Forsyth surname project, and having personal family from Scotland, I do research and work on Scottish profiles often.
Hi Marsha

Thanks for getting back to me. We're delighted that you'd like to stay with the project.

Sheena

Hi Marsha,

I see that your profiles have been merged, that's great! But you still are showing as a guest. If you'd like to change that just redo your "communication preferances"at the top of your profile.

Hi Marsha,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

I’m going to suggest that the Scotland project might fit your current research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Please take your time. Accuracy is so much more important than speed on WikiTree. And please add locations, dates, and at least one reliable source to each profile, particularly any pre-1700s profile, before you leave it. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

 :)

Thanks for the suggestion for the Scotland Project. I am waiting for a guide for the Tartan Trail, so I guess that is part of the Scotland Project.

I have my Florida Pioneer Descendant Certificate and I certified that 3 of my Cason Ancestors as pioneers. Is there a badge or tag to mark them with, as well as one for me

I'm glad that worked out. :)

About the Floridian ancestors - that's very cool. And there should be a badge or some kind of notification. I really don't know much about Florida's history (other than Ponce de Leon, of course), but I did a little research and found the Florida WikiTree group. Here's their link: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Florida.

Let me know how that works out?

Best,

Claire

Hi Karen, I am the Clan Forsyth Society USA genealogist and I am interested in becoming a Team Leader of the Clan Forsyth Wiki tree. Can you tell me how I set this up?

For this Clan Tree I've set up a separate account with my Clan Forsyth email address. I also have an account under my personal address that I use for my personal tree. I hope this is okay.

Hi Marsha,

I think your best bet would be to contact the leaders of our Scotland Project, they will be able to let you know if the Clan already has been set up as part of the project, and if not how to go about getting it set up.

I think that using a separate email address might be ok, but they can let you know about that at the same time

I hope this helps, any problems, please let me know

take care and good luck

Karen 🤗

Karen, I set up profile M. Cain ID Cain 6942 with the intent to use it for a project but was advised to only use one profile for myself. I already had Marsha (Cain) Richardson ID Cain-1665, where my tree is, and attempted to merge them keeping Cain-1665. But both profiles are still here.

I originally had different emails for each profile and removed the one from M Cain and tried merging again but it is still here.

Just to be clear I want to keep Marsha (Cain) Richardson Cain-1665.

Hi Marsha,

Thank you for your note, I will pass this on to the technical people and get them merged together, with merges, the newer profile gets merged into the older profile so Cain-1665 will be the one used, and all information will be amalgamated into the one profile, so nothing should be lost

Take care

Karen 🤗

Hi again.

One Month Member! How are things going? A couple of tips for you as you add to your tree. If you find a duplicate profile, and complete a merge, all the information from one merge is copied into the new combined profile. Please go in and edit the Biography section and put information under the correct headers and removed "duplicate" information.

Also, don't create "unknown" profiles. If you don't have a last or first name, note the related information in the related profile's biography section until additional information is found.

If you don't have a date or place of birth, at least try and estimate that information and note that it is an estimate in the Bio section.

And lastly, source as you go, because if you're like me, you won't remember where you found the info. Nae

Hi! How are things going? Do you have any questions? Two week member!

As you go farther back in your tree, it is a good idea to do a search first to see if you have a match already created on Wiki Tree before creating a new profile. And keep in mind, if you do find a match, odds are the manager is also related to that person and probably you!

There is a great question to review on G2G regarding duplicate profiles and merges. See: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/51703/behind-merges-identifying-lowest-numbered-profile-correct A great place to ask specific question is on G2G. Under My Wiki Tree (on of the links at top right) select G2G PROFILE. You can browse/ask/answer questions. You can also "tag" them by topic. I am a mentor, so let me know if you have any questions!
