John Cadbury English proprietor and founder of Cadbury. He developed an emulsification process to make solid chocolate - creating the modern chocolate bar.
Biography
John was a Friend (Quaker)
John Cadbury, the son of Richard Tapper Cadbury and his wife Elizabeth Head, was born on August 12, 1801, at Birmingham, Warwickshire. His birth was recorded by Warwickshire North Quaker Monthly Meeting.[1][2][3]
Family
John had two wives.[4] He married first Priscilla Ann Dymond, the daughter of John Dymond and his wife Olive, at Exeter, Devonshire, on March 9, 1826.[5] Priscilla was born in about 1799, died on March 8, 1828, and was buried on March 16.[6][7] There were no children from this marriage.
Second, John married Candia Barrow, daughter of George Barrow and his wife Elizabeth, on July 24, 1832, at Lancaster, Lancashire.[8] They had seven children:

In 1841, John Cadbury, 35, a tea dealer, lived on Calthorpe St. with his wife Candia, 35 and four children: John, 7; Richard, 5; Maria, 3; and George, 1. All were born in Warwickshire.[11]

In 1851, John Cadbury, 49 b. Birmingham, a tea merchant, lived on Calthorpe St. with his wife Candice, 45 b. Lancaster, and six children: John, 17, assistant manf.; son R. Cadbury, 15, a clerk; daughter M., 13; Geo., 11; Edwd., 8; and Henry, 5. Niece M. Gibbins, 12; and nephews Wm. Gibbins, 10, and Thos. Gibbins, 8, lived with the family. The children were all born in Edgbaston except John, who was born in Birmingham.[12]

In 1861, John Cadbury, a 59 year old widower, a cocoa manufacturer b. Birmingham, Warwickshire, lived at 51 Calthorpe St. with four children: Richard. 25, a cocoa manufacturer b. Birmingham, Warwickshire; George, 21, a cocoa manufacturer b. Edgbaston; Maria, 23 b. Edgbaston; and Edward, 18 b. Edgbaston.[13]
John died on May 11, 1889 and was buried at Witton Cemetery in Witton, Metropolitan Borough of Birmingham, West Midlands, England.
