Richard Cadbury was born 2nd or 29th August 1835 at Warwickshire, England.^[1]Richard Cadbury was born on 29 Aug 1835 at Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom. ^{[2] [3]}
He was the son of John Cadbury (founder of Cadbury's cocoa and chocolate company) and Candia.

The Cadbury family is a prominent British family of Quaker industrialists descending from his grandfather, Richard Tapper Cadbury (1768-1860).

He married Elizabeth Adlington in 1861 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.^{[4] [5]} They had four children. Elizabeth passed away on 31 Dec 1868, aged 30.

Following Elizabeth's untimely death in 1869, Richard married again in 1871, to Emma Jane Wilson at Clifton, Gloucestershire.^{[6] [7]}Richard and Emma had a further six children.
