When Venita W Cabit was born on April 4, 1924, in Illinois, her father, Stanley, was 24, and her mother, Mary, was 24. She had three siblings. She died on September 26, 2012, in her hometown at the age of 88.
Obituary Venita W. "Vee" Marek, 88, of Bradley, died Wednesday (Sept. 26, 2012) at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 4, 1924, in Flickerville, Rockville Township, the daughter of Stanley R. and Mamie Mae Wilcox Cabit. She married Joseph E. Marek Feb. 17, 1941, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 2001. She was known for sending greeting cards to everyone. She placed a dollar bill in each card for all different occasions, giving her the nickname "dollar lady." She never met a stranger. She enjoyed playing bingo and the slot machines. She liked to travel and stay with her family. She was a lifelong member of the Bradley American Legion Auxiliary, the Bradley VFW Auxiliary and the Mothers of World War II. She was a member of Blue Star Mothers and an associate member of Gold Star Mothers. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Surviving are her children, Judy Pollock, of Bourbonnais, Pat Colclasure-Smith and David Smith, of Burlington, Wis., Joseph "Jim" and Faye Marek, of St. Anne, Edward and Karen Marek, of Pace, Fla., Barbara Clodi-Ward, of Spring, Texas, Kay "Venita" and Cliff Donovan, of Kankakee, Cathy Burk, of Watseka, Stanley "Buddy" and Paula Marek, of Paris, Ill., Donna and Jim Cannon, of Hendersonville, N.C., Rosie and Mark Moreland, of Aurora, Colo., Marie Marek and Kathy Ashcraft, of Bradley, and Brian Marek, of Stillwater, Okla.; 38 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Marcukaitis, of Peotone; one brother, Kenneth Cabit, of Monee; and one daughter-in-law, Heather Askew. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Michael Angelo Marek and Thomas Michael Marek; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Marle and Donald Schultz and Adam Marcukaitis; sister-in-law, Thelma Cabit; five sons-in-law, Walter Pollock, Larry S. Clodi, Tom Ward, George Burk Sr. and Andy Colclasure; four grandchildren, Donna Jo Clodi, Joseph Donald Clodi, Brandon Reiley and Bonnie Colleen Marek; one great-grandchild, Ashley Rene Morales; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. The Rev. John Antczak will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to the family wishes.
