John Burton was born in Lincolnshire, England.

John Richard Burton was born on 10 Apr 1863, in Moulton Marsh, Lincolnshire ( Spalding, Volume 7a Page 351 ). [1]

Registration details indicate :
- Father : Francis Burton - Shepherd.
- Mother : Lois ( Arber) Burton, resident at 'Turnpike', Moulton.
Registration Date - 01 May 1863. ( A copy of the Birth Registration is in the family collection of Mike Gill )

He was the son of Francis Burton and Lois ( Arber ) Burton.


John's father, Francis, took on the tenancy of Piccadilly Farm, plus 15acres of land, around 1870 and the family lived & worked the land as a 'cottager'. [2]

1918, Mary Ann & John's 2nd Son, Reginald Burton passed away on 15 Apr 1918, after being wounded in action during WWI and taken as a PoW to Courtrai/Kortrijk.


John relinquished his tenancy of Piccadilly Farm in the early 1930's. [16]. It is believed that John & Mary Ann moved to a cottage in Great Gidding.


1934, John's wife ( 77 ) Mary Ann Burton passed away on 09 Aug 1934.


( Probably after the passing of his wife Mary Ann in 1934,) John acquired a cottage, opposite the Church of St.Peter in Lutton, for the use of daughter Hilda and her husband, and moved in with her family. [17]
