Reuben was born on 27 Mar 1784 in New York, reportedly the son of Reuben and Elizabeth Burlingam.[1] No primary source has been found to substantiate this. See Research Notes-- Sorting out the Burlingames
In 1818, Reuben Burlingham signed a school contract with other residents of Hallowell, Prince Edward, Canada West. The teacher, Robert Laing, was to "teach Reading, Writing and Arithmetic...at the School-house nearest Daniel Leavens and William Clark, in the Second concession of the second township." See McConnell bio for names of the other signers of the contract, along with the number of children for which each contracted.[2]

In 1851, on the Canada census, Reuben reported that he was born in 1783 in New York. He was a farmer, a Quaker, and married to Phoebe. Phoebe (Leavens) was born in 1790 in New York, and was also a Quaker. A notation on the census is as follows:[3]

Reuben died on 27 Nov 1857 in Hallowell, Prince Edward, Ontario, Canada. He was buried in Friends Quaker cemetery.[4]Reuben had dreamed 9 months before his death that he would die on the 2nd day of the 2nd month of the following year. According to the Quaker Published Memorials:[5]
