Biography

John was born in 1920 in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia.
John Bullwinkel is an Anzac who served in World War Two.

RAAF 407780. He enlisted in 1941, seeing action in Africa. His service records says he broke a leg as during parachuting as a result of enemy action.

In 1948 he married Laura Jean Farrell in Glenelg, South Australia.

He died in 1966 and was buried in Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, Mitcham City, South Australia.

FORMER LOCAL MAN INJURED ON SERVICE

ADELAIDE. -- Mrs. G. Bullwinkel, of Malvern, has been advised that her son Flight Sergeant John Bullwinkel broke a leg during a parachute descent following action against the enemy in the Middle East.

His only sister, Staff Nurse Vivian Bullwinkel, has been posted missing since the fall of Singapore.

Flight Sergeant Bullwinkel was well known in Broken Hill.

AN ENGAGEMENT of Broken Hill interest announced in Adelaide recently was that of Laura Jean, only child of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Sarrell, of Glenelg, and John William, only son of Mrs. E. Bullwinkel, of Fullarton, and the late Mr. G. A. Bull winkel. John was formerly attached to the local branch of the Commonwealth Bank, and is a brother of Sister Vivian Bullwinkel, who was in the Banka Island massacre. John is now attached to the Commonwealth Bank in Adelaide.

FARRELL — BULLWINKEL. The marriage of Laura Jean, only child of Mrs. C. A. Farrell, of Glenelg, and the late Mr. L. P. Farrell, to John William, only son of Mrs. E. K. Bullwinkel, of Melbourne, and the late Mr. G. A. Bullwinkel, will be solemnised at St. Peter's Church, Glenelg, on Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m.
