When James D Buffett was born, his parents -- James Buffet and Hilda (maiden name Seymour) -- were living with Hilda's divorced mother in Pascagoula, Jackson, Mississippi. His father, born in Canada, was a first mate on a sailing vessel.[1]
In 1929, with father named as "Buffett, D.," he was listed as J.D (7) with sister Patsy (6) on the list of educable children in Pascagoula.[2]
By 1930, his parents lived in their own home in Pascagoula, and J D had several siblings: Patsy, Katherin and William. His father was master on a steam ship.[3]
In 1931, JD and sister Patricia [Patsy] and Catherine, were listed as educable children in Pascagoula; their father was listed as "Buffett, J.D."[4]
By 1933, their younger sibling Billy, had also started school; father was named "Buffet, James."[5]
In 1937 and 1939, the list of educable children named their street address as Beach Blvd.[6],[7]
In 1940, J.D., now 21, was still single and living with his parents on Beach Boulevard in Pascagoula. His father was a captain of a cargo and passenger ship; J.D. himself worked as a clerk in the draftsmen's office at a ship building company.[8]
The 1941 list of educable children continued to list J.D. (still 21) as well as his married sister Patsy Lumkin (with Billy and Catherine).[9]
As James D Buffett Jr., he enlisted in the US Army on 28 Nov 1941.[10]
By 1950, James and Lorraine had moved to Mobile, Alabama, where they both worked in ship building-- James was an industrial planning engineer and Lorraine
was a secretary in the industrial relations office.[12]
