Janet (Brown) Pollock migrated from Scotland to New Zealand in 1848.
Janet was christened 16 July 1820 at Abbey, Renfrewshire. Her parents were James Brown, a Waterloo veteran and Marion Watt.

The family emigrated to New Zealand aboard the Bernicia in 1848, landing at Port Chalmers. She was recorded as 22, although would have been 28.

The family settled at Taieri. Janet married William Pollock and they removed to Invercargill in 1856 where he had bought land. They also farmed at Mataura, the Taieri and Breadalbane. In her later years she lived at Mosgiel; then moving to Invercargill with her daughter Mrs. Garrett around 1900.

She passed away 18 March 1903 age 82 at Invercargill.

She is buried at Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill.
