George Hudson Brown is born 31 March 1867 in Burton Fleming, a village also known as North Burton, close to Filey in the Yorkshire coastal area: then in East Yorkshire but transferred to North Yorkshire in 1973. [1] He is the son of Robert Lamplough Brown who dies soon after his birth and his wife Selena Tock.
In 1871 widowed Selena Brown is an annuitant, living in Bridge St. Burton Fleming with her son George Hudson Brown 4 and a domestic servant. [2]
In 1893 George Hudson Brown marries Martha Lowish, probably in Burton Fleming. [3]
In 1901 George Brown describes himself as "retired farmer" but is seems that now he is probably a landowner able to choose whether to farm the land himself or lease it out at a good rental. [4]
In 1911 George Hudson Brown is a gentleman, widower, retired farmer in Bridlington: but where are his children ? Sidney is only 11. Census 1911: 38.
