OBITUARY. THE LATE MR. J. W. BROUN. BEVERLEY, July 26.-~The funeral of the late Mr. J. W. Broun, of Beverley, a grandson of the late Mr. Peter Broun, the first Colonial Secretary of Western Australia, took place in St. Paul's Churchyard, Beverley, at the end of last week. The late Mr. J. W. Broun was born in the district in 1871, and became one of the State's first-rank sheepbreeders, his Southbourne Canowie sheep having made history in West Australian flocks. His services were in keen demand in the Great Southern and Eastern districts, and no expense was ever spared by him to improve the standard of merino sheep in the State, or to encourage and assist the young breeder. A widow (a daughter of the late Mr. W. J, Clifton, of Toodyay and York), two sons and two daughters survive him. Among those present at the funeral, which was largely attended, were Sir James Mitchell and Messrs. V. Hamersley, M.L.C., C. P. Wansbrough. M.L.A.. T. H. Wilding, W G. Burges, W. J. Gillett, R E. Burges, F. Fleay, Gordon Fisher, H. M. Fisher, Morris Edwards. W. Marwick, C. F. Felstead, G. H. Bostock, L. Leaward, E. S. Monger, J. L. Thomas and E. M. Wansbrough. Before the burial a service was held in the historic church of St. Paul's, but it was too small to accommodate half of those who attended, every farmer from miles around being present.
