Biography

ELIZABETH BROMBACH HOTSENPILLER was probably born soon after her parents settled at Germanna and grew up at "Germantown" in what is now Fauquier County, Virginia. Elizabeth married Stephen Hotsinpiller, who arrived in Philadelphia in 1728 on the same ship as the father of her sister Mary's husband Jacob Neuschwanger.[1] Elizabeth and Stephen were married by May 1735, when Elisabetha Hartsenbuehler stood as a baptismal sponsor of a child of Philip Kleesz in Opequon, Frederick County, Virginia.[2] Stephen Hotzenbeler obtained a tract of 450 acres on Opequon Creek, near present-day Stephens City, Virginia from Jost Hite in March 1737. The deed refers to fences and other improvement he had made, which indicate he had already been living on the land.[3] Here Stephen and Elizabeth raised a family of eleven children. As their sons reached age 21 Stephen and Elizabeth deeded each some land. Elizabeth is mentioned on the deeds for the last time in November, 1766, when they sold land to their son, John. When Stephen sold land to his son, Peter, in November, 1767, Elizabeth is not mentioned.[4]

The family genealogy book states she was probably born in Germanna and shared in the development of three pioneer communities: Germanna, Germantown and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.

Brombach-68 and Brumbach-83 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles are for the same person, Elizabeth, wife of Stephen Hotsinpiller (Hatzenbella), Shenandoah Valley pioneer. Two profiles of Stephen are being merged and it is now necessary to merge the two profiles of his wife.
