Biography

John was born and baptised^[1] in 1658 at South Mimms, Hertfordshire. He was the son of John Brock and his wife Joan. John was probably married^[2] to Sarah Sleep in 1688 at Shenley, Hertfordshire though this does not seem to be straightforward as there are records for this dated 1687 and 1689 as well. Indeed their first child appears to have been born in 1685 before any of these dates. However, John was not married before he wed Sarah, so perhaps given her age (nearly 30 years at that time) he may have wanted to check she could produce heirs for him. They had as many as eight children in fact, four daughters then four sons, though at least three died in infancy (including the first, which might explain the delay in marrying). The children were all baptised at Enfield, Middlesex where Sarah died and was buried in 1715. John then died at Enfield in 1716 and was also buried there^[3].
