William was born about 1824 in Lower Hardres, Kent, England^[1], the son of Mary Brett and possibly Thomas Harnett.

William was baptised 11th January 1824 at St. Mildred, Canterbury, Kent, England the son of Mary Brett, single woman of Castle Street^[2]

William Brett married Sarah Ann Solly 17th July 1851 at St. Mildred, Canterbury, Kent, England. William Brett, bachelor, coachman of Rosemary Lane {Canterbury}, son of Har*ett Brett (Coach Proprietor) and Sarah Ann Solly, spinster of Rosemary Lane, daughter of William Solly (Blacksmith). Witnessed by Sam{ue}l White & Louisa Har*ett^[3]

He passed away in 1857 aged 30 years, and was buried 26th January 1857 at St. John the Baptist, Margate, Kent, England^[4].
