She was a recipient of the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice Medal from Pope Benedict XV. she was the first of her race to be President of the Alabama Conference of Social Work, first appointee to the Alabama Health Services Commission, first of her race to be hired at The Dept. of Human Resources; but only after many pleas to the then Governor of Alabama. She was appointed by Governor George Wallace to the State Committee on the Employment of the Handicapped, by Governor Fob James to the State Board of the Department of Human Resources, and by President Lyndon Johnson to the United States Public Health Social Work Commission.
Rosemary Parker (Braziel) Butler was born on 5 Oct 1920 in Mobile, Alabama, United States, daughter of Bennie Elander Braziel (1893 - 1974) and Maybelle (Parker) Braziel (1895 - 1985).
