William Brain was born in Gloucestershire, England.

William Brain was born in 1849. He was the son of Joseph Brain and Elizabeth Hale. [1] William was baptised on 24th June 1849, in Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire, England. [2]

In 1851, William was residing with his mother, four sisters and two brothers in Bitton Hamlet Of Oldland, Somerset. William's father wasn't seen in the census, although his mother's marital status was "married". [3]
