John is the son of John and Catherine Bowman. In 1900, he lived in Logan Township, Pennsylvania. The household included John R. (Sr.), 37, born Feb 1863, a machinist, who rented their house; his wife Catherine M., 35, b. May 1865, who had had six children, all living; and their six children: Nellie M., 17, b. May 1883, employed as a servant (not attending school); William H., 14, b. Sept 1886, attending school; Esther R., 10, b. Jan 1890, at school; Minnie, 6, b. April 1894; John R. (Jr.), 5, b. Nov 1895; and Robert M., 2 months old, b. April 1900. All members of the household could read and write, except the children ten years and below. All were born in Pennsylvania, as were the parents of John Sr. and Catherine. John and Catherine had been married 15 years. ^[1]

In 1910 John Jr. lived at 2020 14th Ave., Altoona, Pennsylvania. The household included John R. (Sr.), 48, a machinist with the steam railroad, who rented the family home; his wife Catherine M., 44, who had had seven children, six of whom were living; and their children: Esther, 20; Minnie, 16; John Jr., 14, in school; Robert, 10, in school; and Helen, 7. John Sr. And Catherine had been married 26 years. ^[2]
