Jean Baptiste Bouton was born to Jean Mathurin Bouton and Francoise Portier around 1720 in what was probably Laval, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France. His marrriage record[5]says he is from La Valle, Diocese of Angers while his brother, Mathurin's[6] says he is from La Valle, Diocese of Nantes . I was unable to find their baptism records, but I did find the record for a Jeanne Bouton with the same parents being buried at the age of 3 years on 14 Feb 1720 in Laval, Mayenne, France.[7]
Jean Baptiste wed Anne Censier on 31 Aug 1745 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana.[5] According to his daughter Anne's 1751 baptism record, Jean Baptiste was described as a burgher and tailor in New Orleans.[2]
By the time of the September 1763 Census of the German Coast, the family was living on the second coast which included Upper St. Charles Parish and St. John the Baptist Parish. His household consisted of him, Jean-Baptiste Bouton, 1 woman, 1 boy under age 14, 4 girls under age 12. They had 2 bulls or oxen, 3 cows, and 1 musket. [8]
