  2. 2.0 2.1 Saint Raphaël, Cantal, Saskatchewan, Canada parish diary record for 1904 describing the marriage of "Leonidas Boutin" and "Rosina Martel." The record actually states that the marriage occurred on "Le trente et un novembre mil neuf cent quatre" which would be November 31, 1904. Since that is an impossible date, I (Daniel Boulet) have used the actual last day of November as the marriage date. This record also states that Leonidas is the son of Charles Boutin and Vitaline Boutin. The record is in the "Saskatchewan, Canada, Catholic Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1867-1932" collection managed by Ancestry.com.

My mother, Angelina Boutin, tells the story of her Uncle Leo going down into the cellar one day to fetch some firewood. While he was in the cellar, his wife, Aunt Rosina, noticed that the door to the cellar was open. Assuming that Uncle Leo had mistakenly left it open open, she closed and latched the door. Shortly thereafter, Uncle Leo came up the stairs to discover that he was locked in the cellar. He tried to get his wife's attention by banging on the door and yelling out but his totally deaf wife failed to respond.

Apparently, Uncle Leo spent a good portion of the afternoon sitting on the top step of the cellar stairs banging on the door from time to time in the hopes that his wife would happen to notice the door move or feel the vibrations. Meanwhile, Aunt Rosina apparently spent the afternoon wondering where Uncle Leo had gone. According to the story, Uncle Leo was freed some hours later when a visitor heard one of his periodic knocks on the cellar door.
