Biography

European Aristocracy
Sir Charles Boughton was a member of the aristocracy in England.

Charles William Rouse Boughton was the second son of Shuckburgh Boughton of Poston Court, Herefordshire and his wife Mary, daughter of the Hon. Algernon Greville. He married on 3 June 1782, Catherine, daughter and heiress of William Pearce Hall of Downton Hall, Shropshire.

Charles succeeded his distant cousin Thomas Philips Rouse in 1768, and took the additional name Rouse. He was created a Baronet in his own right on 28 July 1791, but when he succeeded his brother Sir Edward Boughton, 8th Baronet as 9th Baronet he changed his name again to Rouse Boughton.

  • Ancestor of comedian Alexander Armstrong
  • His brother, Edward, left him only 100 pounds in his will, dated soon before his death. He left the estates, which Charles had expected to inherit, to his natural daughter, Elizabeth. Charles, upon being disinherited, sought the right to the Baronetcy.

Rouse-397 and Boughton-219 appear to represent the same person because: Both are the father of Louise Rose-Boughton, who married 1) Lord St John and 2) Sir John Vaughan. The LNAB for the duplicate father (Rouse-397) and daughter (Rouse-396) are incorrect and Boughton is the correct name for this profile and Rouse-Boughton for the daughter Louise,
