Ralph Harold Boston was an American track athlete who earned three Olympic medals and became the first person to break the 27 feet barrier in the long jump.[1]
Ralph Boston was born in 1939. He was the youngest child of Peter Boston and Eulalia (Eula) Boston.
Ralph attended Tennessee State University where he competed in track & field events. He won the NCAA title in long jump in 1960.
He competed in three Olympic games and earned a medal in all three. At the 1960 Summer Games in Rome, he set the Olympic long jump record, beating his own teammate by about a centimeter.
He was named to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1976.
He passed away in 2023.
