Biography

John was born 23 Oct 1690, the son of Samuel Bliss & Anne [1] Elderkin - married first to Anna Gillam in 1710 - second marriage to Hannah Post 14 Dec 1732 [2] - Bliss, the Reverend Mr John, dyed February ye 1st 1741-42 and is buried at Godfrey Hill Cemetery in Hebron, Connecticut. [3]

John graduated from Yale College in 1710 [[1]] and was ordained as the first settled pastor of the Congregational Church at Hebron, CT, Oct 1717. He was given 160 acres and his salary was 50 pounds. [[2]]

He was dismissed in 1734 and fined for "dissenting views". He then joined the Episcopal Church where he was a lay reader for the rest of his life.

When his wife's brother James died, Rev. Bliss was named administrator of his estate. [[3]]

Yes on wikitree when double dating is known we should be using the latter year, in this case 1742. I know it makes a db error/suggestion. It's status should be marked as false error giving the reason as double dating.

Hebron Vital Records gives dod as:

Bliss, the Reverend Mr John, dyed February ye 1st 1741-42

So, don't we use the latest date making his dod 1742?
