Family history has it that Nicholas Bickford was a sailor. He was possibly from Cornwall or Devon. He married Emma Francis in Port Fairy Victoria Australia in 1852.[1]
Their first son Nicholas Bickford was born in Port Fairy in 1854. After Nicholas’ birth the family moved to the Victorian Gold Fields where a son, John was born in Amherst Victoria in 1856. John died in Daisy Hill that same year,1856. Their other children Emma and Alfred were born near Amherst in 1858 and 1860.
Sometime after 1860 Nicholas and Emma took up land in Moulamein NSW.

Mr Nicholas Bickford, senr. a very ; old and respected resident of Moulamein died at his Son's residence, Barham, on Saturday morning last, at the ripe age of 83 years, from senile decay. His remains were interred in Barham cemetery on Sunday last by the side of his wife, who died some two years ago. The Rev. | Madgwick officiated and a large number of friends attended at the grave.[2]
