Biography

Margaret Malene Beason^[1] was born on May 29, 1925, in Heflin, Alabama, to Sylvan C. Beason and Jennie A. Vise.^[2]

At the 1930 census, Malene was four years old and living on Church Street in Heflin with her parents.^[3]

At the 1940 census, Malene was living in Heflin with her parents and brothers Jimmy and Donald.^[4]

Malene married William C. Ward on December 8, 1943, in Anniston, Alabama.^[5]

At the 1950 census, Malene and William were living at 1218 North 52nd Street in Birmingham, Alabama, with their daughter.^[6]

Malene died in March 2004. Her Social Security records have a death date of March 1^[2] and a last residence of Birmingham,^[7] but her obituary says that she died on March 21 and was a resident of Hoover, Alabama.^[8] Her grave marker in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens has her death date as March 20.^[9] Because the obituary was published on March 22 and the funeral was held on March 23,^[8] a death date in early March is unlikely. Presumably, it would be easier for a typo to occur in a newspaper than for an incorrect date to appear on a grave marker in 2004, so the date on the grave marker is more likely to be accurate.
