Ninian "Ning" Beall[1][2][3][4]

He was born on Jun 3 1763 in the portion of Frederick County, Maryland which became Montgomery County, Maryland in 1776.[1][2][3]

Ninian Beall was a Revolutionary War Veteran. He enlisted at Frederick Town in the State of Maryland in the month of April of 1778 on the Continental establishment for the term of three years. He served as a Private and was assigned to a Regiment commanded by Colonel William Washington in the Company commanded by Captain Cadwallader Jones, being the third Regiment of Continental Dragoons in the Virginia line. While in this service he was in the battles of Bacon's Bridge, Monck's Corner on April 14, 1780, Santee River, Cowpens on January 17, 1781, and Petersburg on April 25, 1781. At the expiration of the term of his enlistment, he was discharged near Charles Town in the State of South Carolina. [5]

Ninian married Christina / Christena Stoll / Stull / Shull on Jul 25 1790 at German Reformed Church, Frederick, Maryland, USA. [5] [6]

They had the following children:[3]

He stated his occupation was that of a wheelwright when filing for his military pension and Ninian was also a farmer. His family removed to Butler County, Ohio where he requested a transfer of his pension in 1821. Some time later, having stated he'd owned no land in Ohio and finding land inexpensive in Indiana, he again requested a transfer of his pension to Ripley County, Indiana in the year 1835. [5]

He, Christena, and their children were living in Jackson Township, Ripley Count, Indiana when he died Jun 13 1836. He is buried in the Old Washington Baptist Church Cemetery near Elrod, Ripley, Indiana. [7][3][8]

Is there evidence that Ninian was the son of Josias Beall (Beall-991)? The list of children on Josias' profile doesn't include a Ninian, and neither does Elise Greenup Jourdan in her study of the family (Early Families of Southern Maryland, vol. 6, p. 278).

Hi Adam and Karen,

I wrote a bio for Ninian and added 4 additional children found in his pension record. I will look through some local sources and see if I can find any information on the two additional daughters he named. I also added a link to this transcribed pension file thanks to Will Graves.

I changed the State to Indiana as death place in the "Directory of Bealls"...it read Illinois. I believe the missing 6th child of Ninian and Christena (Stull) Beall may have been another Ninian Beall (similar in age to Zepaniah, likely first born) who can also be found in the 1840 census of Jackson Twp, Ripley County, Indiana. These were the only Bealls in Jackson Twp. in 1840. Also, the Washington Baptist Church Cemetery is in Elrod (Washington Twp.) but he lived/died much closer to Napoleon, Jackson Twp., Indiana.
