Research Note
Translation: The BAUDOT (rather than Boudot) spelling is mentioned only on one occasion in the sources, namely at the wedding of Aubin son of Aubin at Rg St-Jean-Port-Joli. The first great genealogists of Quebec seem to have favored this spelling, simply because it was taken from a register which at the time deserved much more attention than those of Baie-des-Chaleurs. These first having made reference to it, those which followed naturally adopted this spelling. According to the mentions of Marie and Louise Boudeau in primary sources for Baie-des-Chaleurs, more than a dozen examples, the first three letters of the name are invariably B-O-U. We are therefore of the opinion that the original surname is BOUDEAU. "

A note in PRDH indicates: "UNE ÉTUDE DE SON ADNMT, AIMABLEMENT PORTÉE À NOTRE ATTENTION PAR JEAN-PIERRE GENDREAU-HÉTU, DÉMONTRE QU'ELLE EST LA SOEUR DE MARIE, ÉPOUSE DE JEAN CHICOINE DIT COTTON ET QU'ELLE EST D'ORIGINE AMÉRINDIENNE" Translation: research by her administrator, brought to our attention by Jean-Pierre Gendreau-Hétu, shows that she is the sister of Marie, spouse of Jean Chicoine dit Cotton and that the wife is an Amerindian.[2]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships.
It is likely that these
autosomal DNA
test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Louise:
She is Louise Baudot. Her sister is Marie Boudot (because that is how she was created). There is no need to change either name. There are links to each of them from other profiles and Space pages related to their Hg=C1c. No need to break those. Nothing to be gained.
We will never know the exact and specific spelling of these women's names. I'm not sure that they could have at the time either. One spelling was as good as another. So, let us just accept that we don't know the spelling of this family's name, and we are unlikely to ever discover definitive documentation. They are well known as the matriarch's of the Lecouffe and Chicoine dit Cotton families.
