Biography

Surrey (historic flag)
Elizabeth (Bates) Lawrence was born in Surrey, England.

Elizabeth Bates was born 11 March 1610 in England. However, Edmund and Elizabeth show no documentation of ever having a daughter by this name. I believe her to be, rather, the daughter of Edmunds brother, James, and his wife, Alice Glover.

Having found the following information, I changed her parents to be James Bates and Alice Glover. (Jeanne Aloia)

Very good discussion, with sources, of Elizabeth's identity: https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Elizabeth_Unknown_(4206)

Possible she isn't a Bates at all.

James Bate and Alice Glover are featured in Great Migration 1634-1635, A-B by Robert C. Anderson, and there is no daughter named Elizabeth. (see "father" James Bates-732 for a link)

I am trying to confirm Elizabeth's parents as I realize there is some doubt that they were James Bates and Alice Glover. I have posted a page from The Bates Bulletin 1916 where there is information about Elizabeth.

Please look at Bates-1474 and let me know what you think,

Bates-1474 and Bates-736 appear to represent the same person because: Dates, parents and siblings match.

Robin, I took what you said about Edmund and Elizabeth not having a daughter named Elizabeth. The information I found on Ancestry seems to back that up and to show that James Bates and Alice Glover were, indeed, her rightful parents. Let me know if you have any problems with my changing the profile to include that information!

Jeanne, thank you for your work looking into this mystery. The Ancestry.com record that you posted is from the "Family Data Collection" which is just reported data, not based on primary sources. Elizabeth Bates wasn't the daughter of James Bates and Alice Glover. Rather, she was the sister of Edward Bates of Weymouth, per http://genforum.genealogy.com/bates/messages/7247.html
