Biography

Elizabeth Bassano was born in 1586. Her baptism is documented 13 November 1586 at Shoreditch.[1]

She married first to Roger Jackson in 1607 and had a son Roger baptized in 1610. This son Roger was alive in 1615 when he received a legacy from his grandfather. The Roger Jackson mentioned in the will, grandson of Edward Bassano, must be the Roger Jackson, son of Roger Jackson, whose baptism was recorded in the St. Leonard, Shoreditch, parish register on 20 January 1610/11. The father must be the Roger Jackson whose marriage to Elizabeth Bassano appeared in the same register on 14 April 1607. In the will, Elizabeth is referred to as the wife of Robert Montaine, so Robert must be her second husband.

Elizabeth married secondly Robert Montaine and was his spouse at the time of her father's 1615 will.[2] Elizabeth's first husband died before this date. Elizabeth had married Robert Montaine at some point as she was his wife in 1615.

Research Note

Elizabeth Lupo was not Elizabeth Bassano

Elizabeth Bassano was born in 1586. Her baptism is documented 13 November 1586 at St. Leonard Church, Shoreditch.

Elizabeth Lupo states clearly she is 28 years old in the Elizabeth City Muster of 1624. This puts her date of birth at 1596. She arrived in Virginia on the George in 1616 per her own statement. So, from these facts we can confidently rule out that she was Elizabeth Bassano. Also as Albiano Lupo was forty years old in the muster and arrived in Virginia in 1610.

Elizabeth would have had to emigrate with her Mortaine husband and son Roger, or else they too had to have passed away in either England or Virginia or at least the son left in England when she made the passage. She also would have had no reason to lie about her age on the Muster, so the ten year age gap remains an issue. Ancestry family trees are notoriously unreliable and unsourced. The Find A Grave entry is also unsourced, so is not reliable.

Elizabeth Bassano was baptised November 13, 1586 at St. Leonard Church, Shoreditch.

Unknown-529542 and Bassano-5 do not represent the same person because: The direct account of Elizabeth Lupos birth in the muster is significantly different than the baptismal record of Elizabeth Bassano. Bassano married Roger Jackson then Mortaine,as named in her father's will. They are not the same

Bassano-86 and Bassano-5 appear to represent the same person because: Elizabeth Bassano is well documented in England. She married two times. Neither of those times to Lupo or Chandler. Since Bassano-5 is the lowest number the corrections need to be made on that profile then merged.

Is there any evidence that Bassano was her name at birth or it this just speculation?
