Born in North-Eastern Oklahoma (Ozarks) and raised mostly in (southern) Illinois. My parents are James Basford and LIVING Cowan, who too were born in North-Eastern Oklahoma, my mother the same town as I.
I have been interested in Ancestry as far back as I remember. I am really not sure why. Could be because I have always been close to my grandmother, because I have moved a lot and am curious about what the people before me saw, because I knew my maternal great-grandparents Nona Faye and Clyde D. and was able to meet my paternal great-grandmother Maud and maternal step-great-grandfather Jockie, or could be because I believe in reincarnation and (crazily) believe I could be one of my ancestors in a past life. Who knows.
I only know one thing for a fact, geneology has made me very much interested in history.
Interestingly through my research I have found that President James Abram Garfield is my 1st cousin 7x removed and Thomas Rogers is my 11th great-grandfather. I have this very well documented in my tree on Ancestry.
(I have taken a DNA test through Ancestry and have confirmed that my parents are my parents. My father is who I say he is through all of my DNA connections as well as documentation found on Ancestry.)

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
