Biography

Gilbert Adelbert Barrows was born in August 1862. He was the son of Bailey Barrows, Jr. and Orissa Wing.

Gilbert married Millie King on 25 Sep 1889 in the hamlet of Vermillion in New Haven, Oswego, New York. They had four children:

  1. Florence (1891-1930)
  2. Lula (1894-1979)
  3. Hazel Belle (1896-1971)
  4. Walter Bailey (1898-1978)

Gilbert passed away on 16 Sep 1932 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York.[1] He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse.[2]

Census Enumerations

1870 New Haven, Oswego, New York Gilbert (age 8) was enumerated at his parents' farmstead in New Haven.[3]
1875 New Haven, Oswego, New York Gilbert (age 13) was enumerated at his parents' home in New Haven.[4]
1900 Richland, Oswego, New York Gilbert (age 37) and Millie (age 32) lived on a farmstead in Richland, with their children, Flossie (age 8), Lulu (age 5), Hazel (age 4) and Walter (age 2). Gilbert worked as a farmer and they were renting the home that they had. Millie's brother, Charles D. King (age 47), was staying with them at this time, and identified as a servant to Gilbert, rather than his brother-in-law.[5]
1905 New Haven, Oswego, New York Gilbert (age 45) was still working as a farmer. He lived in the town of New Haven with his wife, Millie; and their children, Flossie, Lula, Hazel and Walter. Gilbert's brother, Henry Barrows, lived with them; as well as an elderly man, A.W. Seliak [sp?], age 80.[6]
1910 Scriba, Oswego, New York Enumerated as "Adelbert", Gilbert (age 48), was operating a dairy farm at this time. He rented his home in Scriba, where he lived with his wife and four children. His brother, Henry Barrows and his wife's brother, Charles King, also resided in their home. Both men were identified as laborers on a dairy farm, and it is likely that they worked for Gilbert.[7]
